Most workers don’t realise they’re being underpaid

It’s not always obvious. It’s not money disappearing from your pay, but missing out on what you should be getting. Here’s what to look for.

Not being paid extra for late shifts

You’re regularly working past 7pm, but you don’t see any extra money in your pay.

Missing weekend penalty rates

You work Saturdays or Sundays, but your pay doesn’t reflect higher rates you’re legally entitled to.

Doing overtime without overtime rates

You’re asked to stay back or come in early, but still get your usual rate or weekly amount.

Getting older, but your pay stays the same

If you’re under 21 and on minimum wage, your rate should go up each birthday.

Working casually and missing out on a loading

Casuals generally get 25% extra. If you’re paid the same as full-timers, you might be underpaid.

Taking on more responsibility with no change in pay
